Individual Therapy FAQ

Before your first session, complete the intake and consent forms provided through our client portal. This helps your therapist understand your background and start tailoring the therapy for adults or teens.

Sessions typically last 45 minutes. Some initial assessments or specific treatments may require 60-minute sessions, depending on your needs and goals. The length and frequency of your sessions are part of your personalized treatment plan, which your therapist will discuss with you in the first few sessions.

We encourage you to ask questions and provide input to collaborate in your mental health care plan.

It’s common for individuals starting individual therapy or counseling to experience initial relief or improvement after just a few sessions. Simply seeking help and no longer struggling alone can provide hope and a sense of direction. In both therapies for adults and teens, it’s crucial to work with your therapist to define what a successful outcome looks like for you, how you’ll know you’re feeling and functioning better, and the specific markers for progress.

These conversations will be woven throughout the therapy process to track your growth.

No, you can begin individual counseling without a diagnosis. However, if you plan to use insurance, they may require one to show the therapy is medically necessary.

Your therapist may provide a diagnosis to help you understand your symptoms, condition, and guide your treatment plan. You may discuss your diagnosis with your therapist and ask questions. Your therapist will not release any protected health information without your written consent.

Any diagnosis code(s) will appear on your invoice, called a superbill.

We are an out-of-network provider. You pay for our services directly, and we provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Each insurance plan has different out-of-network reimbursement benefits.

We recommend checking your insurance plan’s reimbursement rates, policies, and their “allowed amount” calculation to understand your coverage.

The fee is $250 for a 45-minute session and $300 for a 60-minute session. Group sessions are $125. Comprehensive DBT therapy has separate fees.

You will receive a detailed fee and payment agreement with the intake forms to be completed in your client portal before your first session.

The duration of therapy depends on your complexity of symptoms, goals, and readiness for change. Some issues may be resolved in several months, while chronic conditions may require longer-term therapy. Your course of care will be personalized, collaboratively developed between you and your therapist, transparent, and adjusted as progress is made.

Individual therapy for both adults and teens should feel like a dynamic process happening with you, rather than to you.
